The Top 7 Father's Day Gift Ideas for the Technophobe Dad!
My favorite Football-Trikot: Tim Wiese Trikot Online Shop
We all know that Father's Day is a brilliant chance to show your dad how much you love and appreciate him, but it brings a major dilemma with it. Men, and especially fathers, are notoriously difficult to buy for. This especially applies if your father is a technophobe because the majority of Father's Day gift ideas are electronic goods.
Well, if your dad is a technophobe and you are struggling for Father's Day gift ideas, look no further than the top 7 technophobe gifts below!
- A Fussball Table – This is the perfect gift for a technophobe dad because there is absolutely no technology involved. The game is fun and can be enjoyed by the whole family, especially if you happen to be competitive. It will also no doubt take him back to his youth! The cheapest ones cost as little as $50 so it is an absolute bargain too!
- Tickets To A Soccer/Basketball/Baseball Match – For the sporty dad, tickets to a sports event can provide a memorable experience that he will not forget for years to come. This Father's Day gift idea is difficult to top in future years but need not be expensive. Some tickets are as little as $10 a piece, although you might want to throw in a hotdog as well for good measure!
- A Universal Remote – No technophobe dad wants to use one remote for the TV, another for the DVD player and a third for Tivo/Sky so get him a universal remote. At $20 to $25 for a really good one, he can enjoy all of his TV shows with no difficulty at all.
- A Sports Car For A Day – You can now rent sports car for a couple of hours or even a whole day for upwards of $200. This is a pricey but fabulous present that could help your technophobe dad to live all of his childhood dreams and pose for a while. It's the stuff dreams are made of!
- Prehistoric Man Gifts – You can actually buy these on the Internet at http://www.cartoonstock.com/directory/p/pre-historic_man_gifts.asp. They are hilarious cartoons that feature cavemen making jokes about inventions like the wheel. If you want to have a bit of fun with your technophobe dad and make him laugh then this is a must!
- A Personalized Number Plate – These would vary in price but they are very safe as far as Father's Day gift ideas are concerned. What man would not want his very own number plate for his car to show off with?
- The Dummies Guide To The Internet – Obvious but necessary! Your father could have hours of fun on the Internet if he knew how to use it so invest $20 and get him the book that will teach him to do just that!
Even if you do not get your father any of the above, your Father's Day gift ideas should be original and relevant if you really want to show you care. One word of advice though – avoid socks at all costs!

As if Sony can't stop shooting holes in it's left foot, this weekend brings yet another bomb for Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE) that ups the damage factor even further than before.
Yet this time, the damage control means screwing Europe — and the rest of the PAL-standardized electronics markets — with less-capable videogame hardware than that already released in the United States and Japan, five months after already having to wait for their launch day in the first place.
That's because today, Sony has announced officially that the PAL-format PlayStation 3 models, of which there already is only the more-expensive 60GB SKU (and not the cheaper, less-capable 20GB one), will be limited even further in capabilities, specifically in regard to backward-compatibility features.
The result: a complete hardware redesign that also shifts hardware-based emulation technology to more of a software-based solution, which also has the unfortunate side-effect of reducing compatibility with certain titles for the previous hardware platform — specificially in regard to the PS2, but also the PS1 as well (albeit to a much-smaller extent). The effects of the change are similar to that of Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Xbox 360 hardware in its software-based playback of titles for the original Xbox console.
In a statement issued Friday morning, Sony's European office — specifically Sony Computer Entertainment Europe — has admitted that Euro PlayStation 3's will embody “a new combination of hardware and software emulation”, meaning the console will still play most PSone games – but far fewer PlayStation 2 games than its overseas counterparts, at least initially.
Problem is, the news seems in fact to only add to Sony's recent woes, which originally started with battery recalls and the failures of portable device products and media formats has exploded into a series of horrors for the company as a whole. Indeed, the loss of portable music leadership to Apple, Inc.'s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPod, combined with the uphill battle against both portable DVD players and Nintendo Co.'s (Pink Sheets: NTDOY) DS and Game Boy devices for both videodiscs and videogames concerning the company's PSP handheld. Even Nintendo beating the competition in the fixed-point console-for-in-home-gaming market, where the other Japanese videogame giant of the “big three” practically had its larger, more diversified electronics competitor completely “pwn'd” for five whole weeks with almost double the sales of its innovative Wii console compared to Sony's PS3, despite the latter being more powerful. Meanwhile, Sony could only get its newest videogame hardware out on time in the U.S. and Japan (albeit with extremely limited quantities), while the rest of the world was forced to wait for initial delivery to hit five months later.
Worse still is a report from IGN UK, which asks that “before our overseas cousins start getting too comfortable, it's worth highlighting that the news will likely have a knock-on effect, with any changes made to UK PS3s incorporated into future US and Japanese models.” However, Sony is currently “saying nothing, but if it's trying to cut costs it's likely the hardware changes will eventually be made across the globe.”
Similar to “Microsoft's Xbox 360 backward-compatibility strategy,” according to IGN, “Sony plans to release a series of firmware updates, via the PlayStation Network, that will increase the backwards compatibility of European consoles. Currently, Japanese and American PS3s can handle around 98 per cent of the PS2s catalogue but it's not known what per cent we can expect to see in Europe.”
IGN also reports, “David Reeves, president of SCEE, said Sony should not be concentrating on PS2 backwards compatibility, instead saying that 'company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.'”
The conclusion: According to IGN, “Although one could argue that consumers will buy a PS3 to play PS3 games on, rather than going back to their PS2 collection, there's no overlooking the fact that once again it seems like Europeans are getting the rough end of the deal.” So true, yet so disappointing: although there is yet a statement to be made about what games are likely to be affected by this recent change, SCEE is promising to make a list available of just which games will work on or after the March 23 launch date.
Nevertheless, with Sony's latest shaft move, by then it may well be too late.

Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: eos, playstation, powershot, slr | Comment (0)Which Game System is the Best?
Once again, let me start by saying this one is an opinionated article. I have played all 3 of the major gaming systems: the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. The following is what I have found.
I am sure many of you have noticed the days of Atari are long gone and the newest game systems out would make any Atari owning family drool with envy. A question that is asked allot is which system is the best or which one should I buy I am here to try to answer those questions for you. I will lay out some pros and cons effecting all 3 systems and let you make up your own mind after putting in my own two cents of course.
First let's look at the obvious choice money wise anyhow the Nintendo Wii. A bargain at around $250 this little system packs some bang for your buck a system that allows players to get involved in the game via movement sensitive controllers. Nintendo has always been targeted at the more childish audience from their comic drawing style toon games to their marketing strategy. If your an avid gamer the Wii will leave you wanting a bit more even though Nintendo is managing some decent adult games at the moment such as Resident Evil 4 it can do allot better and may over the long run so I would give this system a try in the store to see if you enjoy it before buying it. The main downside to this system is the controllers tend to eat batteries rapidly and with almost no plug and play option rechargeable are the only way to go. The final downfall to this system is it's inability to play any form of HD disk. I am a proud owner of this system and while my 5 year old boys play it the most for a younger child this is the best system out there.
Next let's stick to the price order and examine the Xbox 360. This system is the weakest of the 3 in my book due primarily to it's backing HD and loosing out and the earlier models constantly getting the red ring of death. Let's not forget though that this is Microsoft who always seem to come out on the up side and what pulls it threw for the 360 is the game titles mainly Halo which has a cult following and Gears of War which is rapidly building a fan base. With most of the games going cross console the previously mentioned games and a few other Microsoft exclusives are the only reason I would consider buying this console. While it's ability to play games in HD is a positive note the graphics on the 360 just don't seem to stack up to the PS3. This is the only console I have put off buying and will continue to do so until such time as my children ask for it for a holiday.
Last but not least we have to take a look at the Playstation 3. This console is the best one around in my opinion I have owned one since they first hit the shelves and while the $500 price tag for the best version of the console may deter some potential buyers it is well worth the money. This system offers almost complete backwards compatibility in their high dollar version which means you can play most PS2 and even PS1 games. Sony has ticked off alot of buyers by continuing to make new games for PS2 instead of focusing on the PS3 but it's a mistake I will forgive. The Playstation Network online play is one of the bonuses this system has to offer in that it's free to use unlike the 360's online option. Meanwhile the consoles media player is outstanding allowing you to play BluRay disks, DVD's, as well as using USB ports to connect jump drives with media files on them. PS3 also offers a few motion sensitive games such as L.A.I.R and while not as satisfying as the Wii the games are well made. The other major plus to this system is the USB ports which allow the owner to connect external peripherals such as hard drives, jump drives, mp3 players, and even cell phones if compatible. While the controller cords can be a bit expensive don't sweat you can pick up a Moto-Q computer link cable which will work to charge your controllers. The down side to this system is it does tend to heat up a bit and a fan attachment is a recommended addition. I will also say buy the HDMI cable the difference made is well worth the price on a decent HDTV.
I hope this article helped some people and while it is my opinion and I am sure some people will argue with it just like my brother who swears by 360 it is intended as a helping hand and not an attack on any of the systems, they are all fun to play and I would tell everyone that has money to buy all 3 and try them for yourselves but if you don't have money make use of the in store demos and see what you think.

A lot of talk amongst boxing fans after David Haye's victory over Nikolai Valuev is of a fight with one one of the Klitschko's in a unification fight some time in the foreseeable future. In fact a comment by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer is that David Haye will likely fight one of them in Wembley Stadium the huge soccer stadium in England. However there is a host of reasons why I doubt the fight will take place in Wembley (though I do hope the fight comes off at some point in the net 18 months), in fact looking at it, it's almost certain not to take place in the huge stadium (that can Hold 90,000 for a Soccer game, though would hold around 70,000 for a boxing event).
The most obvious reason being that Haye failed to deliver last time, when he'd mentioned getting the 42,000 seater Stamford Bridge stadium in London (home of Chelsea Football Club) when a fight with one of the brothers was first mentioned. The idea fell through and as a result a fight was arranged at the much bigger Schalke stadium in Germany (around 60,000 seats), a fight Haye would ultimately pull out of with a “back injury”. At short notice Wladimir would fight Ruslan Chagaev at the same stadium, selling it out in the process, proving the Ukrainians giant drawing power in Germany. Despite Wembley being bigger, the simple fact is that a guaranteed 60,000 would show up in Germany to see Wladimir fight the uninteresting Chagaev meaning that a fight with Haye would also sell out there, in fact the Klitschko's could sell out pretty much any stadium in Germany due to their popularity over there. In fact the Olimpiyskiy (in Kiev, where Wladimir resides and Vitali has campaigned politically) holds over 80,000 whilst Olympiastadion (Berlin) holds over 70,000 and Munich Olympiastadion (Munich) is just shy of 70,000 (as well as 2 other 60,000+ stadiums in Germany) and could all by filled by a Klitschko.
The TV company's that back to the fighters (outside of America) are Sky Box Office (SBO) for Haye, and ARD for the Klitschko's. Hayes last fight sold around 800,000 on PPV (SBO is a Pay Per View service) against Nikolai Valuev, this may seem like a lot but there's a lot of things worth mentioning such as it was at effectively at a “normal” hour (the fight started around 10PM GMT) and was very heavily advertised. Ricky Hatton's fights at silly O'clock in the morning did over a million, selling on Hatton being popular rather than the possibility of Haye being the first Britain to hold a heavyweight title since Lennox Lewis lost, as the David v Goliath angle the fight was heavily sold on. In Germany the Klitschko's last few fights have been seen by millions, in fact they have been around 50% of the TV viewing public in Germany. A drastically larger audience of course, though they would show the fight if it was held in England you can't help but feel they would rather it was in Germany. Also Haye's next fight will be against John Ruiz, it'll be interesting how many of those 800,000 come back to watch that one against a fighter well known for his boring style of hitting and holding. Though of course Ruiz isn't the draw that either Klitschko is, it's almost certain Ruiz against either Klitschko would still set huge figures in Germany on ARD, not something Haye is likely to pull on SBO.
Carrying on the mention Haye v Ruiz their fight is thought to be taking place at the O2 Arena in London at late evening early night sort of time (10PM GMT sort of thing). This means two things, firstly the American media isn't bothered by the fight (otherwise it'd be shown early morning in the UK as American fans would want it live for their late evening and US TV exposure would be hugely enticing for Haye). Secondly the O2 Arena is a place David Haye has fought twice before, firstly he had a packed house as he faced Enzo Maccarinelli in a battle of Britain at Cruiserweight, secondly he fought Monte Barrett in the 23,000 seater stadium. For the Barrett fight tickets were slow to sell in fact it still wasn't a sell out despite tickets being sold at half price for some of the build up. If Haye doesn't sell out the stadium against Ruiz (very possible) it may force the fight to be held away from a big stadium in England as the view would be Haye isn't the draw that he thinks he is. In fact if Haye doesn't deliver an explosive performance against Ruiz he may struggle intensely to to keep the fans that have popped up as casual boxing fans over the past week or two.
The final reason, and perhaps the biggest reason the fight won't be held even in the UK is that Haye, much to his credit has gone to his opponents back yards in his key fights so far (bar the fight with Maccarinelli). He went to Paris to dethrone Jean-Marc Mormeck of the WBA and WBC Cruiserweight titles (TKO7) and he went to Germany and beat Nikolai Valuev for the WBA Heavyweight title in the Nuremberg Arena (it's self a 10,200 seater). The Klitschko's have between them only fought once each in the UK (Wladimir would beat Barrett in 2000 whilst Vitali would defeat Herbie Hide the then WBO heavyweight champion in 1999). Instead they've mostly kept themselves to fighting in the US and Germany (only 2 countries they have fought in since they fought in the UK). It's likely that Haye's confidence and the fact the Klitschko's are such massive draws in Germany that a German Soccer or Athletics stadium will be used.
Though it's possible I'm completely wrong the evidence for a fight in Wembley just seems flimsy and unlikely to be much more that hyperbole by the Hayemakers promotional team. What's also worth noting is that Sauerland Event have almost certainly got options on Haye for 3 fights, Sauerland are based in Germany and may have the deciding vote on where Haye fights. They would almost certainly want to use their time with him in front of German fans and German TV, so maybe it's more than just a wild theory that the fight when it takes place against either Klitschko will be in Germany.
